If you can‘t make contactless payments, check the following things to help you determine the possible cause of your problem:

Yokoy Platinum Visa type and country

Currently Google Pay is just available for physical and virtual Yokoy Platinum Visa cards in certain countries.

Yokoy Android app version

You need to install the latest version of the Yokoy Android App to add or activate the card from the Yokoy App and to receive payment notifications.

Google Wallet version

Make sure to always use the latest version of the Google Wallet app. Check the Google Play store for updates.

Android smartphones with NFC chip

Your Android phone needs to have a NFC chip in order to make contactless payments in shops. Make sure your phone supports NFC in opening the settings and search for “NFC“. If you can’t find NFC, you can’t make contactless payments with your phone.

NFC active

NFC needs to be turned on to make contactless payments in stores with your smartphone or smartwatch. To turn on NFC, check your phone‘s settings.

Unlocked smartphone

If you tried to make a small payment with your phone locked, unlock your phone and try again. Transactions under a certain amount may not require you to unlock your phone. You can check this in your NFC settings. For regional requirements, see Google Wallet's payment limits on a locked device.

Screen lock

To make contactless payments with Google Wallet, you must use a screen lock on your device for your security.

✏️ Note

Google Wallet doesn’t work with 2D face unlock or screen locks like Smart Unlock or Knock to Unlock.

Certified phones that meet security requirements

Make sure that your software is Play Protect certified and that possible software updates didn‘t affect the functionality. If you modified your phone, make sure that it meets security standards, but at best, use a device that runs an original version of the Android operating system.

Troubleshooting tips

  • Make sure that your phone is awake and unlocked.

  • Hold your phone in a different way. Your NFC antenna could be near the top or middle of your device.

  • Hold your phone closer or a few more seconds longer to the payment reader.

  • Move your phone out of range of the payment reader for a few seconds and try again.

  • If the payment doesn‘t go through, find the NFC sign on the terminal or ask a cashier for help.
